Selling books
Posted by Robert on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 8:38am
I am so thankful that I published with WinePress.  The ease in working with the staff and the flexibility of the product is great.  This past year I moved and in doing so I have out-dated my back cover bio.  WinePress can easily change the back cover copy because there isn't a warehouse filled with copies of my book.  Now, I am changing the back cover and within weeks all my titles will reflect my new position, which by the way will better promote my book.

Summer time
Posted by Robert on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 7:43am
What has been so difficult for me now that I am closing in on a year after my first publication date is keeping momentum.  My book sales have been modest, though the book has been well received.  So while I have been very busy with my job, I often forget to keep the book promotion going.  It's a tough time.

I remain hopeful.  I continue to write and I continue to reachout for places to speak.  I thougth this whole thing would be a bit easier, but thank goodness for WinePress, because I am not sitting on thousands of copies of books, in my basement.  Print-on-Demand is the way to go.

Been a while

Wow,  I can't believe it's already Easter.  It's been too long since I've posted last.  In the last several months I have been working hard increasing my sales.  What I've accomplished is getting my book listed in the Border's bookstore system.  So now I can do in-store signings locally and the bookstores can shelve my books.  This is a very important step.

I have also done my first book tour.  I spoke at several churches in the North Carolina and in Jacksonville, Florida.  The important thing in doing this is that I put together an interesting presentation with Powerpoint slides to go with it.  And I learned that this is the best way to sell books.

My plan is to do two more signings in my local area this spring and then about a dozen this summer.  That will really boost my sales.

The fruits of labor
Posted by Robert on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 6:36pm
So each day, I work on selling my book.  And it's beginning to bear fruit.  I had a colleague order 15 copies for his church.  I have a couple of stops firmed up on my book tour in the Carolinas in March.  I have called local bookstores asking them to stock their shelves with copies.

The denominational track is working out okay, too.  I have found a receptive audience within the ranks of my denomination's bookstores.  So I am hopeful that more sales will continue to come in.

And soon I will receive my first royalty check!

Everyday
Posted by Robert on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11:11am

The shine of being "published" has faded a bit.  It's still really cool, but I now realize that just having a book in print doesn't amount to book sales.

So I have to sell my book.  Yes, I have done many radio interviews, but frankly that hasn't generated the book sales that I hoped for.  In order to generate sales, I leverage my national radio campaign and my other contacts at churches around the county to get my book noticed.  Everyday, I either call a book store owner or send a letter to a friend or try to get an author's visit schedule.  I hadn't anticipated that I had to do this work, but I am willing.
